Questions people ask
- When do I charge CGST and SGST instead of IGST?
- It depends on the place of supply, not on where you are registered alone. If the place of supply is in your own state, the tax splits into CGST and SGST at half the rate each. If it is in another state, the whole amount is IGST. This tool decides that from the two GSTINs, or from the states you pick if either side has no GSTIN.
- What is the difference between a quotation, a proforma invoice and a tax invoice?
- A quotation is an offer — it creates no liability and no tax point. A proforma invoice is a commitment to supply at those terms, often used to request advance payment, and is still not a tax document. A tax invoice is the GST document: it must carry your GSTIN, a serial number unique for the financial year, and the tax split under the correct heads.
- Does an invoice number have to restart each year?
- A tax invoice needs a consecutive serial number that is unique within a financial year. Most Indian businesses restart the series on 1 April and carry the year in the prefix, which keeps the series obviously unique.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The document is built entirely in your browser and saved only in that browser, so you can close the tab and come back to it. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to give us your email address.
Doing this fifty times a week?
This page makes one document at a time. Ordder reads the enquiry as it arrives on WhatsApp or email, prices it against your catalogue, sends the quote, and raises the invoice when the customer says yes.
